Forza Horizon 3’s Australia is my favorite map among the first five Horizon games, with Forza Horizon 2’s Mediterranean setting a close second. Both make an ordinary drive between events feel like a reason to keep playing, which matters more to me than the number of icons on the map.

If you are looking specifically for the Forza Horizon 5 map, that game takes place in a fictional representation of Mexico. It combines a volcano, deserts, jungle, coastal roads, and Guanajuato. How I Ranked The Forza Horizon Maps

My priorities are enjoyable roads, scenery that invites another journey, and a setting with a clear identity. Variety matters, but so does how naturally a drive moves between different environments. A larger map can offer more activities while leaving a weaker impression on someone who mostly enjoys cruising.

This is a location ranking. Car selection, progression, online features, and AI behavior influence a complete game verdict, but they are separate considerations. A list of Forza Horizon games ranked can reasonably reach a different order by weighing those systems more heavily.

1. Forza Horizon 3 Australia

Australia offers the best balance of freedom and atmosphere for my tastes. The coastal influence, Outback scenery, and Surfers Paradise skyline make the setting feel varied without losing its sunny identity. Byron Bay and the Yarra Valley inspirations add recognizable character beyond the city and desert.

The map is especially appealing if your ideal session mixes several styles of driving. You can spend time around an urban center, move into greener countryside, and finish somewhere that feels much more open. That changing backdrop gives even a familiar car a different context, without requiring a new event every few minutes.

Its broad roads also make it a welcoming place to cruise. There is room to recover from an imperfect line and enjoy a fast car without every bend becoming a test of precision. That is a strength for casual driving, although players who want narrow, demanding roads may prefer Colorado or parts of Britain.

Australia remains my first choice because it makes the journey itself enjoyable. The Hot Wheels expansion added another entertaining playground, but the mainland earns this position on its own. The Blizzard Mountain expansion offers a very different snowbound challenge, and should likewise be treated as a separate destination when comparing the base maps.

2. Forza Horizon 2 Southern France And Northern Italy

Forza Horizon 2 comes closest to taking first place. Its Mediterranean setting has the atmosphere of a driving holiday: coastal stretches, attractive towns, and roads that invite you to choose a car for the occasion rather than for its competitive rating.

Nice gives the map a compact urban focal point. Moving between the built-up areas and the surrounding roads rarely feels like crossing empty space just to reach the next attraction. The highways provide room to stretch a car’s legs, while the smaller roads make a slower drive worthwhile.

The tradeoff is scale. Someone who enjoys spending hours uncovering a sprawling world may find later Horizon maps more satisfying. For relaxed cruising, though, a manageable map can be an advantage. It is easier to remember a favorite route and return to it without relying entirely on the navigation line.

I particularly like the coastal atmosphere as the light changes toward evening. It is the setting that most makes me want to turn a virtual drive into a real holiday, preferably with a Ferrari waiting nearby. Australia narrowly wins on the range of environments, but the Mediterranean remains my pick for a leisurely road trip.

3. Forza Horizon 4 Great Britain

Being from the UK, I initially doubted whether familiar countryside could feel exciting enough for a Horizon game. The opposite happened. Roads, villages, and even the gray weather gave the setting an appeal that a more obviously exotic location could not reproduce.

Edinburgh is a major reason this map works. Its architecture creates a distinct city identity, while the surrounding countryside keeps the transition back into open-road driving interesting. The combination gives you both a recognizable urban destination and plenty of reasons to leave it.

Seasons are Britain’s strongest advantage. A familiar route can ask something different of you as conditions change, so returning to the same road does not necessarily mean repeating the same drive. That appeal also creates a tradeoff. If you want a consistently dry cruise in a favorite car, changing conditions may interrupt the mood. If adapting your driving is part of the fun, Britain can easily belong above my top two. It earns third here because Australia and the Mediterranean more closely match the atmosphere I enjoy most.

4. Forza Horizon Colorado

Putting Colorado fourth feels harsh because the original Horizon has such a strong sense of place. Mountains, smaller settlements, and a focused road network give it an identity that does not depend on having a giant city or a huge checklist.

The tighter roads are the main attraction for drivers who enjoy committing to a line. Compared with the broader spaces in later games, mistakes can feel more consequential. A modestly powered car can therefore be entertaining without needing to turn every journey into a maximum-speed run.

Colorado also demonstrates why a smaller map is not automatically a lesser one. Recognizable roads and a clear landscape can make a setting easier to remember. For someone who wants to learn a place rather than continually uncover another section, that focus is a real advantage.

My lower placement comes down partly to taste. I enjoy coastal scenery, and Colorado is the only one of these five settings without a sea coast. Its rural character also offers less of the city-and-country contrast I value in Australia. Those preferences explain the position; they do not make its mountain driving any less rewarding.

5. Forza Horizon 5 Mexico

Mexico is last on my personal list, but describing its map as simply desert would be inaccurate. Playground Games identifies eleven distinct biomes, including jungle, farmland, swamp, two coastal environments, Guanajuato, and the volcano. Seasonal changes also affect different regions in different ways.

The volcano roads are the highlight for me. They combine scenery with a more deliberate series of corners, giving you a satisfying destination as well as an entertaining route. They are especially appealing if you enjoy experimenting with the best drift cars and finding a controlled rhythm through consecutive bends.

My reservation is how the wider setting holds my attention. Some open stretches and settlements feel less engaging to me than Australia’s transitions or Britain’s recognizable character. That is a judgment about atmosphere and road preference, not a claim that Mexico lacks different environments or that every player will find it repetitive.

For cross-country freedom and a wide choice of terrain, Mexico may be your first choice. Choosing the best off-road car for your intended route also changes the experience considerably. A car that feels cumbersome on a city street may become much more enjoyable once the road ends.

Start with the kind of driving you enjoy, then use the map to find a matching area. These are useful first stops rather than a complete collectible route.

Mexico’s main map should also be distinguished from Hot Wheels Park and Sierra Nueva. Those are separate expansion destinations, with their own layouts and activities. If your map search is for an expansion collectible, use the appropriate expansion map rather than the mainland Mexico view.

Which Forza Horizon Map Is Best For You

Choose Australia for a varied, relaxed drive with a strong coastal identity. Choose the Mediterranean for road-trip atmosphere, Britain for changing conditions, and Colorado for a more focused mountain setting. Mexico offers the broadest range of biomes among these five and plenty of scope to choose terrain around a particular car.

Australia stays at the top of my ranking, but the most useful comparison is the drive you want to repeat. A map with your favorite kind of road will last longer than one that merely looks impressive on a feature list.
